The Smiler: Further Insight Revealed

The theme and overall viral/marketing campaign is now well versed for The Smiler, Alton Towers’ 2013 world beating roller coaster. However further insights have been revealed from Katherine Duckworth, one of the team that came up with the concept for the ride.

Speaking to the Mail Online Katherine said:

“We want people to get off the ride and not know what is real.

‘There are five different mind effects, which are all designed to mess with your head. You shoot towards giant syringes, spinning hypnotic wheels, and flashing lights, among other things.’

Looking at the artwork (above) it is assumed that the five “tricks” relate to the five separate arms featured on the thumbing focal point.

Katherine went on to add:
“There is more track per square metre than any other ride in the world”

Whilst the ratio of track to space is indeed impressive, fans and guests will perhaps be hoping this isn’t the only selling point of the attraction’s “world beating” feature.Only time will tell.

The Smiler is scheduled to open in May 2013.
