Oakwood Welcome Coaster Clubs

Around 100 members of the European Coaster Club, from as far afield as Sweden, are arriving at Oakwood Theme Park in Pembrokeshire this weekend (Friday, August 6th).

Their visit also marks the 15th anniversary of the Pembrokeshire park’s iconic wooden rollercoaster Megafobia.

Opened in 1996 and manufactured by the leading US company Custom Coasters International, the ride is close to a kilometre in length, is 26 metres at its highest point and reaches speeds in excess of 77 kilometres per hour.

Famed as one of the wildest wooden coasters on the planet, Megafobia has been voted the best ride in the UK and the third best ride in the world by coaster enthusiasts from the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain.

In 2010 it was listed as one of the Top Ten rides in the world in a poll conducted for Cheapflights.com.

With a maximum vertical angle of 55 degrees and 25 metre drops towards a lake combined with unique crossovers this twister has attained legendary status among coaster fans worldwide.

As well as riding Megafobia, which  ECC founder Justin  Garvanovic rates as the best in the UK and among the top three rides of its kind in Europe, club members will also be taking part in special events and activities throughout the weekend.

The European Coaster Club is a not-for-profit organisation that promotes the enjoyment of riding roller coasters, as well as visiting amusement and theme parks.

The Club was formed in 1996 and now boasts over 1,500 members from around Europe and the world, including corporate members that represent almost every major theme park operator and roller-coaster manufacturer.

Later this month members of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain will also be visiting Oakwood Theme Park for their own celebrations.
