Isle of Man theme park not financially viable.
A theme park would not have a significant enough impact to warrant financial investment, according to a report that is to be laid before the island’s government.
Last year, an investigation had been called for to look at ways of establishing a theme park on the island, which is in the Irish Sea and has a population of around 80,000.
Merlin Entertainments, who were asked to look at the prospect of building a park, said that a successful theme park requires a population of seven million people living within a two-hour drive.
The report said: “Clearly the level of investment required would need large numbers of off island visitors to have any chance of being financially viable. People will not travel to the island to visit a sub-standard product when they can go to an established, good quality theme park closer to home,” it added.
