Injuries Following Ride Collapse at Bottons

We have just received notification that injuries have been sustained following the collapse of the ‘Surf Rider’ attraction at Bottons Amusement Park, Skegness today at around 15:15.
The emergency services were called and are currently in attendance, a police spokesperson said:

“The call came in at 3.15pm. As far as we are aware at this early stage there has been an incident involving one of the rides – believed to be the Surf Rider.

“There does appear to be no serious casualties and certainly, as far as we are aware, there are no fatalities.

“We don’t yet know what happened to the ride but currently the situation is that the riders are being evacuated and they are suffering from shock and minor bruises”. The Health & Safety Executive has been informed and the ride will remain closed pending a full investigation.

This is the third theme park related incident within the last week following an incident at Camelot Theme Park and Bridlington Sea Front.

Update:
It appears as the the gondola linkage failed somehow, resulting in the gondola resting in a vertical position. Riders have been evacuated from the attraction by emergency services. A better photograph can bee seen over at the BBC Yorkshire website.
