Grand Pier Proves to Be A Popular Christmas Day Out

“Thousands of people have been packing onto Weston-super-Mare’s new £51 million Grand Pier during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Since Boxing Day alone between 6,000 and 10,000 people a day have been flocking through the turnstiles of the seafront attraction.

And on New Years’ Eve, New Years’ Day and Sunday, a staggering 10,000 people each day have visited the landmark.

Owners of the pier Kerry and Michelle Michael say they are astonished and delighted at the number of people visiting the attraction over the festive break.

Restaurants on the pier, including the Pit Stop Cafe and the Adventure Cove Cafe, have been full throughout the break with staff working non-stop to feed hungry visitors.

Michelle Michael said: “The pier has been astonishingly busy and we are overwhelmed with the number of visitors we have had since Christmas. Since Boxing Day we have been really busy with between 6,000 and 10,000 people visiting the pier every day. It is proving to be the amazing indoor attraction we always knew it would be.”

The pier reopened at the end of October following a £39million rebuild after the pavilion was destroyed by fire in July 2008.

In its first week of opening, nearly 300,000 visitors poured through the gates of the attraction – described by its owners as the best pier in the world.”
