Flamingo Land Wins Conservation Accolade

Flamingo Land, near Pickering North Yorkshire, has received a 2010 ‘Gold David Bellamy Conservation Award’, moving its previous ranking up from silver, in recognition of a partnership with the University of York which led to the launch of a groundbreaking research unit.

Renowned environmental campaigner Professor Bellamy praised the work of the Centre for the Integration of Research, Conservation and Learning institute, which is based at the theme park and jointly funded by Flamingo Land and the university’s environment department.

Ross Snipp, Flamingo Land’s zoo manager, said: “The partnership makes us unique, as there is no other holiday park in the UK with its own research facility of this kind. This award recognises both the hard work we have put into conservation awareness and the protection of habitats within the park, as well as our dedication to conserving endangered species on a global scale.”
