Fairground Worker Convicted of Sex Offences

Lee Bingham, age 37 has been jailed for 5 years after he was convicted for sex offences against a schoolgirl he met at the waltzers of the fairground he was working at.

Bingham was unanimously found guilty by a Jury at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday on two charges of sexual activity with a child. The court heard Bingham worked at the Annual Easter Fairground in Heath Common, Wakefield where he met the teenager in Spring 2010.

Sentencing Bigham Judge Guy Kearl QC said:  “In my judgment, supported by the jury’s verdicts, you saw an opportunity to take advantage of this 13-year-old girl who had significant problems of her own at the time.”

She was vulnerable and needed protecting from herself but instead, “You took your time over a minimum of three to four weeks to, in effect, groom her.”

He added he was satisfied Bingham had given the girl at the very least alcohol, but could not be sure she had been given drugs.

“But having plied her with alcohol on two occasions you had sexual intercourse with her.”

Bingham has been barred from any unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16 and will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
