Alton Towers staff crackdown on Speeding
Security staff at the Alton Towers Resort, Staffordshire, have joined forces with the Police in an attempt to reduce speeding in the surrounding areas.
A recent traffic survey showed that many motorists were exceeding the speed limits, which can be especially dangerous on the narrow country roads, in and around the Alton area.
Alton parish councillor, Tony Moult said “We suffer quite badly. The county council recently carried out a speed check, which showed quite a high percentage of motorists driving over 30 mph along Uttoxeter Road.”
“The speeders are a bit of a mixed bag. Some are visitors to the theme park, some are residents and some are workers at Alton Towers and JCB. It will be nice to see a few police officers in the village encouraging drivers to slow down.”
The crackdown has been launched to coincide with the theme park’s Halloween festivities and firework displays, which attract thousands of extra visitors during the autumn.
An Alton Towers spokesman said: “Working closely with the police, our security team are to maintain a strong presence on some of the key approach roads to the resort, to closely monitor traffic and speed levels at peak times, such as during Scarefest.”
