Alton Towers Resort Offers Park-Wide Wifi
Guests visiting the Alton Towers and Splash Landings hotel have previously been able to benefit from pay-as-you-go wifi, then soon after the park introduced Facebook offers, free wifi was made available at the entrance plaza to allow check-in, however this was often clunky, slow and unreliable.
Backed by The Cloud, a BSkyB company, guests can now for the first time access FREE fast reliable Wifi throughout the park, not just in restaurants and retail areas. Around the park have been positioned a number of access points/relays – these have been positioned in high-view areas to maximise signal strength and most themed “areas” of the park have 2 or more of these small boxes to ensure consistent signal strength.
In fact the only place we lost signal was down in the kiddies play area behind River Bank Eye Spy (we didn’t test in the gardens, but assume signal would be lost here too). Connection speeds are good and once connected (you need to create a free account with The Cloud) guests can expect speeds of around 2mb.
This makes sharing your day at the Resort even easier; videos and photos can be uploaded to social networking sites straight away without delay, plus guests can now make full use of the resort’s dedicated smartphone app, where previously it couldn’t be used due to poor 3G coverage throughout the park.
Let’s hope more parks follow suite to keep up with the demands of the 21st century theme park visitor!
