Alton Towers Announce SW7 Plans
In an interview with local newspaper The Sentinel, Alton Towers have confirmed that a new ‘World First rollercoaster’ – ‘SW7′Â will be installed for the 2013 season.
The new ride is set to open for the 2013 tourist season and will top the £15 million spent building the Th13teen ride which opened last year.
News of the ride comes as Alton Towers revealed it attracted more than 2.7 million visitors last year – a 17-year record.
General manager Ian Crabbe told The Sentinel: “We are going to be working extremely hard to make sure this ride is the only one of its kind in the world.
“SW” is the code name used at Alton Towers for the park’s large investment rollercoasters and is an abbreviation for “Secret Weapon”. The park currently has four Secret Weapon Rollercoaster;
SW3 – Nemesis
SW4 – Oblivion
SW5 – Air
SW6 – Thi3teen
SW1 & SW2 were designed but then scrapped in favour of the B&M inverted coaster, Nemesis.
